Home against Sheffield

30th January, 2012

Thunder's season finally clicked into gear with a splendid performance that saw the spoils shared with Sheffield after a thrilling match. Thunder started brightly and hit the post in the first minute. The first period remained scoreless, but Thunder took the lead at the halfway point in the match through a cool finish... by Amanda Williams. It proved to be a short-lived lead as Sheffield hit back with 2 quick goals. Thunder continued to pass the puck well and there were lots of well executed break-outs and regroups. Sheffield scored a slightly fortuitous third goal, but this just spurred Thunder on and a well-taken goal by returning captain and new mum, Danielle Skelton and a breakaway goall evened the score with five minutes to play. All the play was around the Sheffield net as they took a number of penalties and Thunder were close to winning the game when Billie Elliott's shot came back off the post with just 2 minutes to go. Sheffield outshot Thunder 37-21, but this was a vastly improved Thunder performance in all areas of the game and bodes well for the rest of the season. MVP went to Beth Wright for her assured play in defence on her debut.

Away at Billingham

15th January, 2012

Thunder showed good organisation and plenty of spirit throughout the game, but ended up being outshot 99-18 by a Billingham team boasting three GB U18 players. Billingham were able to score from a number of loose puck situations, so just some small improvements in this area of play will see scorelines improve. Thunder also had some decent scoring chances but were unable to turn these into goals on this occasion. MVP went to Jade Conway.

Away at Whitley Bay

10th December, 2011

Again Thunder were at a disadvantage before the off with a short bench. The ladies played their hearts out and did their very best from the start and right up to the end of the game. The ladies had a great time which made for a great atmosphere throughout the game. The scoreline ended up 19 - 2 with Billie scoring both Thunder goals. The whole team got the mvp. A big thanks to all of the players that made this game and made it a good day.

Away to Sheffield

4th December, 2011

Another game without our regular Goalie Bea, who was away for this one but Emma played very well in her place letting in 17 out of 55 shots on and considering she has only had a goalie kit on about 5 times and was quite ill on the day being unable to stand up a lot of the time played very well . the 1st period finished 8 - 0 . Amanda scored for Thunder in the 2nd period finishing the period 8 - 1. Our best period was the 3rd when it took Sheffield 15 minutes to score when Thunder were on the penalty kill. They didnt manage to score again with the period finishing 1 - 0. We had a few chances with 19 shots on goal. The game finished at 17 - 1 with Jade from the grind line recieving a well earned MVP.

Home to Nottingham

20th November, 2011

Thunder started positively and created some decent chances before a freak own-goal saw Vipers take the lead. The match continued to ebb and flow but an increasing amount of tetchiness crept in culminating in Amanda's game coming to a premature conclusion after a nasty slash to the ankle. Thunder continued to give plenty of ice time to the new players who all put in strong performances and kept playing right to the final buzzer. It is a tribute to the effort shown by the whole team that no goals were conceded in the final period. The final shot count was 77 shots on Bea and 14 on Nottingham. Thunder MVP went to Sarah Lowe who had a great game on her return to the team. Despite the score this was another good effort by Thunder and the new players are gaining valuable experience that will bring its rewards in the games to come

Away at Hull

14th November, 2011

Another courageous effort from Thunder with Emma Lowe standing in between the pipes. What was always going to be an uphill task was made even steeper with Diamonds icing several Premier League players. Thunder's new players continued to gain valuable match experience and showed a lot of promise. Thunder's goal was scored by Cat Fell and MVP went to Emma who had 42 shots on. Final score 20 - 1 to the Diamonds

Home to Telford

2nd October, 2011

First game of the season with some brand new team players against Telford. A hard fought game with some scoring opportunities for the Thunderbirds having 20 shots on goal without success compared to Telfords 90 shots on super Bea's goal who only let 8 goals in and made some sensational and amazing saves. Well done to Jade, Lindsey and Sarah who had limited ice time to find their feet in their first game and especially to Jakki Duncan who was pushed into defence for her first game and recieved the MVP for her hard work and good defensive play .Final score Telford 8 Thunder 0

Away to the Phoenix

15th May, 2011

The Thunderbirds travelled to Coventry for their last game of the season and got off to a good start with Amanda Williams scoring the only goal in the 1st period. Phoenix equalised in the 2nd period which finished 1 - 1. Billie Elliott scored the winning goal in the 3rd with Thunder finishing their season with a 2 - 1 victory. Cat Fell had a goal washed out by a very biased Coventry referee for no reason and had been harrassed through the whole game because of her ability and excellent hockey skills. MVP went to Emma Stephenson. Great finish to a good season with our new Thunderbirds who have gelled in and have enhanced the team immensely.

HOME TO HULL

13th May, 2011

This game on the 14th of may is cancelled due to the rink not booking the ice time.

Home to Sheffield Shadows

7th May, 2011

The Thunderbirds made a good start to the game playing defensively and taking their chances to attack when they could. There was some good team play from the Thunder throughout the duration of the game. 1st period finished 2 -1 to the Shadows ,2nd 3 - 1 and the final score was 7 -2 to Sheffield after one of the worst refereed games that we have ever played. Things got a bit heated between the players towards the end of the game but the Thunderbirds played very well throughout against the top of the league team. Billie Elliott scored our 1st goal and the 2nd scored by Amanda Williams with Alison Elliott recieving MVP after having 61 shots on her goal.

Easter sunday and a home game with the Penguins

24th April, 2011

The first period looked pretty even as both teams battled for the 1st goal which was achieved by the Penguins with their netminder keeping them in the game throughout. Amanda Williams soon equalised the score with her 1st Thunder goal of the game. Peterborough scored with just over 2 minutes to go in the first. The second period was a different story as the Thunderbirds came out with renewed vigour which carried on throughout the period and into the 3rd giving them a 7 - 3 victory. 4 goals from Amanda Williams, 1 from Billie elliot and 2 from Cat Fell. MVP went to Billie Elliot who played a good game at both ends of the ice. Final score 7 - 3 to the Thunderbirds.

Away to Telford

18th April, 2011

Thunder came to rue their inability to create enough clean scoring chances to complement what was a better defensive effort in this match. Well done to Telford for an enjoyable encounter played in good sporting spirit. MVP went to Bea Fletcher for saving 63 of the 67 shots she faced. Final score 4 - 0 to Telford

Home to Nottingham

3rd April, 2011

Thunder were quick out of the blocks, taking a 1-0 lead and holding Nottingham to a 2-1 scoreline at the end of the first period. Nottingham's better organisation and more determined skating saw them extend their lead with Thunder troubling the netminder all too infrequently. Thunder didn't let their heads go down and showed spirit in their play right up to the final buzzer. The Thunder goal was scored by Cat Bowen-Fell and Spirit Of The Game went to Megan Bowen-Fell for a determined exhibition of defence play. Final score 7 - 1 to Nottingham.

Away to the Diamonds

13th March, 2011

Despite an early Thunder goal, Kingston scored 4 past a hapless Thunder in the first period. However, the ladies rallied well and chipped away at the Kingston lead coming back to 4-3 and 5-4 down before conceding an empty net goal with less than 30 seconds to go. This was a performance full of character and Thunder were close to equalising, but were kept out bya combination of staunch defending and some good netminding. This was a highly enjoyable game to watch and played in great sporting spirit by both teams. The Thunder goals were scored by Cat Fell, Nicola Crompton, Alison Elliott and Amanda Williams.Cat recieved the MVP.

Away to Sheffield

17th January, 2011

‎2 players and 1 manager injured in the warm-up and 1-0 down after 3 seconds, slow starting Thunder gradually worked their way back into the match. 92 shots on Bea's goal highlights the need for stronger team defence but the team still showed plenty of spirit and scored two excellent goals.Scorers Cat Fell and Amanda Williams, MVP to Dani Skelton who played with a sprained wrist

Home to Coventry phoenix

3rd January, 2011

Our first game back after the christmas break and a home game against Coventry Phoenix. An evenly and well contested match stood at 1-1 with 10 minutes to play. A combination of Coventry upping their game and Blackburn running out of steam saw a bit of a collapse by Thunder in the last 10 minutes. Well done to Megan Bowen scoring her first goal and to Emma Stephenson Young for her MVP who won every face off but one and was her first time as a center.

Away to the Penguins

12th December, 2010

After the long trek to Peterborough and with only 9 players including Ali in goal the Thunderbirds had their first win of the season ,scoring 2 goals within a short space of time at the start of the game. The ladies finally came away with an 8 - 1 win over the Penguins. Cat Fell and Amanda Williams scored 3 goals each , Penny Fletcher and Nichola Crompton scored 1 each. Cat Fell recieved MVP. A big thank you goes to the Peterborough team for delaying the game due to some of our players being late and missing the alloted face off time.

Whitley home game

21st November, 2010

The Thunderbirds certainly looked the part with the first outing for our new home shirts but unfortunatley after a shocking 1st period went down to the Squaws by 9 - 0. The 2nd period was a lot better with the girls playing with a lot more intensity with the period finishing 12 - 1, Amanda Williams scoring the Thunders 1st goal. However the score was 17 - 3 by the final buzzer with Cat Fell scoring another 2 goals. MVP went to Billie Elliott

Whitley Away

18th October, 2010

The Thunderbirds travelled to Whitley bay for the away game against the Squaws. The first period looked promising ending with a 0 - 0 scoreline. Unfortunatly the 2nd period was a different story when the Squaws managed to score 5 goals in quick succesion. Thunder had created many scoring chances through the game until Cat Fell finally got 1 in the back of the net which seemed to frustrate the Whitley team but delighted the Thunderbirds. The game finished with 9 - 1 scoreline but the score really didn't reflect on the way the team played and the score should have been a lot closer. The team are starting to gel a lot more now and I think we can look forward to some Thunder wins this season. Well done to Nicola Crompton for the MVP.

Telford home game

25th September, 2010

First game of the season with some new players on the roster. It took approximately 14 minutes into the first period before Telford finaly scored their first goal on Alison Elliott, and a real sloppy goal it was too, as were another 2 of their goals. The Thunderbirds showed their potential for the future today as they were defeated by a team that have been together for quite a while now and as the season progresses I'm very confident that the Thunder team will gel and become a force to reckon with. Final score 6 - 1 to Telford with Amanda Williams scoring the Thunder goal and a big well done to one of our new players Megan Bowen who recieved the MVP.

New players

26th August, 2010

Blackburn Thunder would like to welcome Cat Fell, Megan Bowen,Billie Elliot and Emma Fahy to their team who I'm sure will make a great addition to the squad.

Home to Sheffield

30th April, 2010

In this ,the last game of the season against Sheffield Shadows we had Alison Elliott back in her net. Thunder kept the score to 1-0 in the 1st period then in the second period sheffield managed to make it 7 - 1 . The Thunderbirds pulled themselves together in the third to keep the period score to 1-0. Final score 9 - 1, Amanda Williams scoring the Thunder goal.

Home to the Vipers

20th April, 2010

Nottingham brought with them a very young team to play against the Thunder with only Bea matching their age. It took them just under 10 minutes to score their first goal and it went down hill from then on scoring another 15 making the final score 16 - 0.Although Amanda did score 1 it was disallowed. With 6 coaches on their intense bench it made the day more fun for us giving us something else to smile about as we listened to how seriously they were taking hammering a bunch of old birds at the bottom of the table :) . Beatrice Fletcher recieved MVP after letting 15 in out of 85 shots on.

Away to the Diamonds

12th April, 2010

The ladies travelled to Hull for an early face off. The whole team played an impressive game with over 17 shots on the Diamonds net and Dani Skelton scoring the Thunder goal with an assist from Emma Stephenson Young. Although Thunder lost the game they played very well and are improving with every game they play. Final score 4 - 1 to the Diamonds. Well done to Danielle Skelton for her MVP.

Away to Whitley

5th April, 2010

With a few key players missing for this one, the Thunder ladies travelled to Whitley bay. We created a few scoring chances which didn't pay off. Thunder kept Whitley to 3-0 in the first period, 1-0 in the second but the Squaws put on the pressure in the 3rd by playing their best players to score 6 goals on a tired Thunder team. Final score 10 - 0 to Whitley Squaws. Penny Fletcher recieving MVP.

Home to the Diamonds

27th February, 2010

With Amanda,Ali 2 and Helen missing from this one the Thunder birds played an impressive defensive game and created a few scoring opportunities but to no avail. The final score was 6 - 0 to Hull and with 3 of our key team players missing was also an impressive score line for us, especially seeing as they had their premier net minder and some other higher level players on the roster.Well done to Dani for her MVP, Niki Sutton who has been away for a while,Ali who did a great job in defence and to Bea our elastic netminder who played brilliantly again for us. The whole team should be proud of their performance tonight.

Home to Whitley

16th January, 2010

Bea fletcher made her debut in the Thunder net for this game and looked as if she was made of elastic at times letting in only 9 from 79 shots on goal. Alison Elliott played out on the wing for this one seeing as Bea had taken over her net and managed to score Thunders second goal.Joint MVP went to Bea and Alison. Everyone on the team played well and managed to keep Whitley below 10 goals. Final score 9 - 2

Nottingham Vipers away

4th January, 2010

After the long travel for a very late face off time in Nottingham the Thunder Ladies although opening up a few scoring opportunities came away with a 14 - 0 defeat.

Home to Flintshire

27th December, 2009

The first game back after the christmas break showed a sluggish Thunder team lose to the Furies 19 - 3.Thunder goalie, Alison Elliott played a hard game and made some good saves on the night only letting 19 in out of 97 shots on goal. However Alison Howell (Ali 2) got the mvp award and scored the Thunders 3 goals.

Kingston home game

29th November, 2009

The Thunder ladies once again battled to the end of a 3 -1 defeat, Our only goal being scored by Penny Fletcher who was perfectly positioned in front of the net and tapped it in when the goalie was facing away from the back post. Helen Macdonald had a near miss when the puck stopped on the goal line.Amanda Williams suffered a nasty slash on the wrist which was missed by the officials. We were the better team on the day and was only really defeated by the Diamonds netminder on the day.

Away Game at Sheffield

23rd November, 2009

Our visit to Sheffield for our game with the Shadows this weekend wasn't the best game we had ever played but there was some great team play going on out there which showed how much the ladies are improving. We lost 15 - 1 with Amanda Williams scoring our only goal and not one penalty point by any Thunder player. There were a couple of unusal whistle blows for icing from the obviously inexperienced linesman which stopped a couple of our powerplays when we should have been breaking out. Well done to Nicola Sutton in her first game and Emma Stephenson Young who is starting to get her hockey head by playing a good defensive positional game. Well done to Helen Macdonald who recieved MVP and spent her birthday morning playing the game(Happy birthday) and got a soaking on the ice afterwards.

Kingston Diamonds game

8th November, 2009

After travelling to the mini rink at Grimsby for the game against Hull Kingston Diamonds ,Thunder came away with a 4 - 1 defeat. It was good to have Amanda Williams back playing who managed to score the goal ,although it should have been 2 but the puck was picked out of the mini goal by their minder before the ref could call it.
